Reed Awards – Before the Big Show

Nicole Schlinger Reed Awards

Award season is upon us.

Ken and I recently attended the Reed Awards in Atlanta. The Reed Awards is hosted by Campaigns & Elections magazines as a way to recognize companies in the political world that are delivering exceptional content and products.

We had some fun before the big event. Shane D’Aprile from Campaigns and Elections called our gift “major league swag!”

At my presentation, we may have slipped in some swag for the attendees. Oh, and I also talked about how your campaign can benefit from a great phone program.

We had a great time. More from the 2020 Reed Awards soon.

Thanks for checking in,

Sharing Our Caucus Love

In case you missed it, the Iowa Caucuses are the greatest and now that they’re over we’re missing them.

Back in January, we had some students from Grinnell College stop by our office to talk all things caucuses.

Nicole Schlinger Grinnell College

So many of our employees at CampaignHQ are veterans of several different Iowa Caucus Presidential campaigns, organizing from the precinct to national level. They have extensive years’ worth of experience consulting on high-level statewide, congressional and senate races.

Students from Barbara Trish’s class spent an afternoon at CampaignHQ to gain insights on the Caucus process, discuss issues taking center stage in this year’s presidential campaign and discuss strategies of the different campaigns.

We had a blast talking to these students who were bright and engaging students from Grinnell College to our office to discuss the Iowa Caucuses. We recognize how important Iowans’ voices are to kicking off the nominating process as a First in the Nation Caucus. It’s something we do not take for granted and love sharing caucus history with others, including students.

Flashback Friday – Good Reads for 2020

As we turn a new year it feels like a lot of people say, “this year I want to read more books.” If that was you, let’s do a check – we’re at the end of February now, how we doin’ on that goal? That’s what I thought.

I’m guessing your good intentions started you off well but as January and February wore on, the snow came, the ice, the cold, the hectic work schedule, kid events, church gatherings…your reading goals may have fallen off.  You’re not alone and it’s not too late!

Maybe you can jumpstart your reading goals again with a few good books. I thought I’d re-up my post from January 2019 with a couple of really great selections you should check out.

Friday Favorites – Part 2

We’re taking another look at some of CampaignHQ employees’ favorites today. As a reminder, we originally posted these fun look backs on our Facebook page. You should head on over and give us a follow for more posts and updates from our team.

My favorite call and why:

My favorite call was the call to an elderly lady who had many, many questions. I answered them as they came up. She wasn’t real comfortable donating until all the questions were answered. I must have done well because she gave me a $20 donation on a card.

My most embarrassing call:

I asked for the expiration date, “And your expiration date?” They replied, “Hopefully not soon!”

Nicole Schlinger promotions

My favorite client to call for and why:

Pro Life (SBA) – I want to be able to save as many unborn children as I can. Everyone deserves the chance to live. There are people that can’t have children and dream of having a family.

My favorite CHQ story:

November & December 2018 – On that: “Christmas Bucks/Points and prize store” promotion: I loved when everyone worked together to get each person (without supervisors suggesting it) to get a prize that they wanted. Everyone teamed up, that they came to work and made sure each day, at least, to have one person get their prize/s. I witnessed the true Christmas spirit with everyone – even a little within myself. Also, I was thrilled to see a dog eat from the shelter at the very end.

My favorite promotion and why:

I like the promotion to give to the animal shelter last year for dogs and cats, less fortunate than out own! I have a “soft spot” for cats, in particular. I also liked last year’s Christmas promotion with the points store. Everyone helped each other (without supervisor prompting) to get their gifts – The true spirit of Christmas was shown.

My favorite call and why:

I called in a southern state (had accent). He was drunk but he was funny! He kept trying to get me to come over after work and he’d buy me a drink! I got through the script and got a donation, but could hear him falling over stuff trying to get his card. What a sweet talker!

Have a great weekend!

Winning the Tough Ones

Recently, I had the chance to do a podcast –  this was my first podcast, so now I am very hip. I spoke with Justin Grubbs, host of Winning the Tough Ones.Nicole Schlinger

On the show, I went through the history of phones and political campaigns, giving a look on how the industry has changed since I’ve been involved. Organizations who didn’t adapt early to  people dropping landlines do not exist anymore. At CHQ, we adopted a mobile-first strategy and are leading the way to new technology like peer-to-peer texting.

I also chatted with Justin about how Campaign Headquarters influenced the fights on Merrick Garland and Obamacare.

I had a lot of fun and am thankful to Justin for letting me come on his show. By the way, you should listen to some of the other guests he’s had on -some of my great friends and people I admire like David Kochel, Jeff Roe, Eric Branstad and Chuck Larson – along with great campaign strategy for everything like fundraising to yard signs, and everything in between.

And if you have a podcast, I’d love to come chat! You can listen on Apple , on Google  or through RSS feed here.

Thanks for listening!
