Fun Friday – What I’m Into Lately

We made it through another fun-filled week – congratulations!

For this Fun Friday post, I thought I’d share a quick look at a few things I’ve been into lately. I like to share a few of these from time to time – most seem to revolve around books, purses, ABC’s Shark Tank or politics. This list covers most of those bases.

Here’s what I’ve been into:

Nicole Schlinger America's First Daughter

Stop whatever you’re doing and read this book. You’re welcome.

Nicole Schlinger Shark Tank

A minor rant here – I cannot believe this. Shark Tank has jumped the shark. This is a legit business with 1. Actual Sales and 2. An owner who knew ALL of her numbers.

She has actually made money and had a plan for what to do with the investment. Kevin O’Leary even said, “you’re a good operator.” And YET … NO INVESTMENT! Lori Grenier said she “doesn’t like cookie dough.” Lies. She invested in “The Cookie Dough” bar on Season 5. Mark Cuban says he’s “worried about obesity.” Really? Does the snack bar at the Dallas Maverick’s arena only serve lettuce? Seriously.

<steps off soapbox>

Nicole Schlinger Julia Child

I’ve been thinking this myself lately, but Gretchen Rubin of course puts a much finer point on it. Thanks for saying what I was thinking. An updated take on TR’s Man in the Arena. You can always laugh at him (or her) … but you’re the one on the outside who did nothing and accomplished nothing.

Have a great weekend,

Martha Waffles and Nicole Schlinger at another event.

Fun Friday – Atlas Shrugged

“If you saw Atlas, the giant who holds the world on his shoulders, if you saw that he stood, blood running down his chest, his knees buckling, his arms trembling but still trying to hold the world aloft with the last of his strength, and the greater his effort the heavier the world bore down upon his shoulders – What would you tell him?”

“I…don’t know. What…could he do? What would you tell him?”

“To shrug”

Happy Friday friends.

Fun Friday – Greatest Floor Speech Ever?

“There was no battle with, or without velociraptors.”

There’s a phrase you probably never thought would be uttered on the floor of the U.S. Senate. And yet, it did and it was awesome.

MUST WATCH. GREATEST SPEECH IN SENATE HISTORY.

Fun Friday – Top 5 List

I mentioned a few weeks ago that CampaignHQ is hiring.  I thought a Top 5 list would make a Fun Friday post. To here you go, the Top 5 Reasons YOU belong at Campaign Headquarters:

#5: A Team you’ll love like family. Just like a family, we can and do disagree. We even get mad at each other. But once we come out of our huddle and decisions are made, we are a united front. We pitch in and support each other. You’ll hear “is there anything I can do to help you” more times than you can count, but trust me, it never gets old. You will work hard at CampaignHQ. The job is demanding. But you’ll be recognized and appreciated.

#4: A growing, financially stable company. We’ve been here for 20 years. We’ve seen ups and downs … but mostly ups. We aren’t owned by a venture capital company. We don’t have dozens of partners. We run lean. Our financial decisions are made based what’s best for our clients, our team, and being successful together. If you love the excitement of the campaign trail, but hate the paycheck uncertainty, we’re the right place for you.

#3: Work with Purpose. #CHQis a purpose driven company. We believe in personal freedom, individual liberty, and the right to life for every human being. We fight hard for the candidates and causes in which we believe. Employees are mission driven and ready for the challenge.

#2. No BS. We do one thing – effectively communicate your message over the phone. We aren’t interested in bureaucracy, middle management, filling out forms, or endless meetings.

#1. Shape your Destiny. If you like doing things the way they’ve always been done … then #CHQ is not for you! We’re looking for someone who will learn and participate in every aspect of our business , provide legendary service to our clients, and be an indispensable part of our mission.

Are you ready to get started? Email marlys @chq. us with your resume for next steps. You can view our job description here:

Flashback Fun Friday

20 years ago today I printed business cards on an ink jet printer, glued them to magnets and had the audacity to call it a business.

As you can see, the business cards of CampaignHQ have changed over the years, but one thing certainly hasn’t – that quality matters.

Moving into the future, you can find us on the frontline of new technologies while remaining true to ourselves and our mission as the best conservative call center in America.

Let our trusted and experienced callers get to work for you today. 1-(888) 722-4704.

Thanks,

Fun Friday – Secret Library?

A friend who knows me sent me this story about a guesthouse in upstate New York that has been turned into a secret library in the woods.

The delightful dwelling comes furnished with everything you need to leaf through a good book: a big, fluffy bed, snug armchair, and, of course, a wall-to-wall selection of reading material. A charming wood-burning stove heats the 200-square-meter space, so you’ll always be nice and toasty no matter the weather.

Ah yes, now to figure out how to get one of these in Iowa. You can read more about the structure here and see more delightful photos.

Fun Book Facts

For today’s fun Friday post, I wanted to share this graphic that I found some time ago. If you’re new here, you should know I am an avid book reader and consumer of knowledge.

You can check out my thoughts on countless books I’ve read on my Medium page where I review books about business, human nature, decision making, sales and capitalism (of course).

Considering the amount of books I read each year, I found this graphic very surprising.

I’d encourage you to pick up a book and get started. Your local librarian should have a few good ideas or you can check out the reading list I put together last fall.

Thanks for reading,

Nicole

Fun Friday

…or in this guy’s case, not so fun Friday.

Check out this story from the New York Times.

A person running for city council did not get the chance to vote for himself and ended up tying his opponent on election day. In the end, he lost by the roll of the dice.

Several important points here, but mostly: don’t be this guy. Voter turnout matters and we can help you so you don’t end up throwing it all away on the roll of the dice.
